A good posture is more important than you realize. It is vital to your overall well-being.
But, what exactly is good posture? It’s basically the position you hold while sitting, standing, and lying down. A good posture ensures that your body is aligned symmetrically and the muscle tension is just about right.
Sustaining a good posture is crucial to your health. It not only ensures that your bones are well aligned with the rest of the body but also makes sure that your body parts are in their rightful positions with minimal stress. But, in today’s stressful and sedentary lifestyle, we’ve often been found slouching while being ignorant of the same which has done more harm than good. So, to help you remain in good shape, we’ve listed 4 tips which will help you improve your posture. Let’s get started!
1. Be aware
The first step towards correcting your posture is being aware of your poor posture. When you feel your shoulders hunch, the spine starts to curve, or your back sway, stop there and then. Make it a point to pull your body back into proper alignment.
Pull up your body and raise your chin slightly so that it is parallel to the floor. Next, pull your shoulders back and allow your arms to hang naturally at your side.Your knees should be slightly (soft knees) bent with your feet about shoulder-width apart. Your back should not be swayed and for this, tuck in your stomach and roll your pelvis forward. You should keep your weight mostly on the balls of your feet. This is what a good chiropractor posture is.
2. Use the wall/floor
To get a feel for how to shift your pelvis, you must use the wall or floor for it. However, if you have a habit of tilting your pelvis back so that you have a sway back, you need to learn how to roll it forward to get it straight.
A sway back can be developed either out of habit, due to injury, or if someone carries a lot of abdominal fat. While it can cause a great deal of pain, just making the adjustment to straighten your spine will make a lot of difference.
To straighten your back, stand flat against a wall. Keep your feet directly under you. Now try to press the small of your back into the wall and feel how your body shifts. Pay close attention to that sensation so you can duplicate it without using the wall. You can also do this while lying on your back with your knees slightly bent. Arch your back and then press it against the floor to get a feel for that motion.
3. Exercise regularly
A good posture is not easy to maintain. You need to stay active for it. Regular exercise and stretching are very important and good posture is absolutely vital while you are exercising. This is called “form.” Practice good form while you are doing cardio, weight bearing exercises, and stretching. If you fail to do so, it might lead to injury or pain.
Moreover, your chiropractor in MD can advise you on various exercises and proper form for each of those. When in the gym or at home, learn about good form for the exercises you do. You can also take guidance from fitness professionals.
4. Get regular chiropractic adjustments
In addition to the aforementioned ways, chiropractic adjustments are always a good option for improving posture. Even if you are working on it yourself, it is important to get regular chiropractic care due to numerous reasons for it. First, your chiropractor can make necessary adjustments to your spine, will provide you with a much wider range of motion and better mobility. Secondly, he/she can recommend exercises for you and even demonstrate the same properly. Thirdly, if you have weight issues, he or she can provide you with advice on diet and lifestyle changes. So, consider these points and take advantage of chiropractic care for your whole body wellness. It will not only improve your posture but will also improve your life.
