As we get older there are visible changes to our appearance, from wrinkles to hair loss, it’s a natural part of life. However, you don’t have to settle for just accepting the changes. There are ways you can reduce the signs of aging. From heading to a top cosmetic specialist for a hair transplant in Istanbul to spending money on expensive face creams to help add collagen back into your skin. All these changes can do wonders for your confidence, and some are simpler than others to remedy. Grey hair in particular can be a stubborn one to work with, so here are some top tips on how to cover them with ease and style.

Try A New Hairstyle

If your grey hairs are only just starting to sprout in certain areas, you may be able to change up your hairstyle and keep them tucked away. For example, if their more noticeable on the left side of your hair, try flipping your parting to the opposite side to keep them from view. Or if you find your greys are towards the back of your hair, try opting for a more windswept look, by brushing your hair back to add some volume, keeping them out of sight. You could attempt different types of braid too that will allow your greys to naturally blend into your hair without looking too light. Incorporating different hairstyles into your daily life will allow you to cover your greys naturally, but also allow you to have fun with your hair when styling it.

Dye Your Hair

If your grey hair is cropping through quite quickly and you’ve lost a lot of your natural pigment, you could always consider dyeing your hair. Heading to a salon will give you the best results as your stylist can talk you through the best options for your hair. But there are dyes you can use at home if you prefer. If you do choose to go the DIY route, make sure you choose a dye that can cover grey hair, as you’d be surprised at how many actually won’t. Especially if you have lighter hair, the blonde box dyes available won’t be strong enough to cover the white of the grey and you’ll still see them. A lot of blonde box dyes are designed to lighten hair, and not deposit much colour. So, if you’re a natural blonde with greys, it might be worth making the trip to a salon.

If you have dark hair, using the darkest colour available won’t be a good idea either. You may think your grey hairs look light now, but if you darken your hair too much, they’ll be visible as soon as your roots start to grow through. You might need to use a permanent dye too, as anything less will wash out in a few weeks and still leave you with visible greys.

Grey hair is also the most resistant to taking on the colour, so you might need to apply the dye onto them first. However, when dyeing your hair at home, make sure you follow the provided instructions and always do a skin test beforehand!

Lighten Them Up

If you don’t want to change your entire head of hair, you could discuss the option for highlights at your salon. Highlights will allow the greys to blend in naturally with the lighter strands without causing too much damage to your hair. And better yet, you don’t have to overhaul your look. Highlights aren’t a drastic change either, so if you prefer a more natural blend on your hair, they could be worth considering.

Accessorize!

You don’t have to resort to such drastic measures when trying to cover your greys. You could try accessorizing your hair with different hats or clips. A headband can be a great way to hide your greys without reaching for the hair dye. Grey hair will sprout from the top of your head, so adding a thick headband can help keep them tucked away.

Use A Pigmented Spray

If you don’t want to keep dyeing your hair every few weeks and reduce any damage that could cause, you could try using a pigmented hair spray. Unlike regular hairspray, these products don’t provide hold. Instead, they are coloured to match certain hair colours and can be sprayed directly onto the hair to cover any greys up. Similarly, if you are covering your greys with dye, you’ll notice your roots coming through so a root touch-up spray can be a lifesaver. The sprays are great at hiding any unwanted greys in your hair and can also add a little thickness to the area.

Root Touch Ups

As our hair grows from the top of our heads, greys might be noticeable there first. Instead of having to re-dye your whole head, you can try using products designed specifically for touching up your roots. If you aren’t colouring your hair and are still sporting your natural colour with a few greys, you can find temporary root products to touch them up instead. For example, there are pens and powders that can be applied directly to the root and provide high coverage.

Go Bold

Nowadays, there are lots of temporary hair colour solutions that deliver great colour, but no damage. Grey hair can look great if it’s blended into blues, purples, and silvers. You could look at using a colourful hair spray and really go for something different. Grey hair can give pastel colours sparkle and you get to wash it out when you want to tone it back down.

Covering grey hairs can be difficult and time-consuming, but once you find a routine that works for you, you’ll never look back. Before committing to hair dyeing and changing the style, maybe give pigmented sprays a go and see how you like the finished look. Grey hairs are persistent but with a little effort, you can say goodbye to them and restore your regular glossy colour.
