Ingredients
- 3 lb uncooked ground turkey breast
- 14 oz jars pizza sauce
- 2 cups frozen stir-fry vegetables (yellow, red, and green peppers and onions), thawed and drained
- 6 oz can no-salt-added tomato paste (1⁄3 cup)
- 16 whole wheat hamburger buns, split and toasted
- 8 oz slices part-skim mozzarella cheese, halved
- ¼ cup sliced black olives (optional)
- Snipped fresh basil (optional)
How to Make It
- Coat a very large skillet with nonstick cooking spray; heat over medium-high heat. Cook half of the turkey at a time until no longer pink, stirring to break up. In a 4- to 5-quart slow cooker combine turkey, pizza sauce, vegetables, and paste.
- Cover and cook on low-heat setting for 6 to 8 hours or on high-heat setting for 3 to 4 hours.
- Spoon ½ cup turkey mixture onto each bun bottom. Top each with a half slice cheese, olives, basil, and bun top.
