Making your own granola ensures that it is packed with your favorite ingredients, which you can mix and match to your heart’s desire. Seeds are rich in omega-3 fats, while nuts offer good levels of protein.
Ingredients
- ½ cup mixed seeds, such as sunflower, sesame, pumpkin, and golden flaxseed
- ½ cups rolled oats
- 0.33 cup mixed unsalted nuts, such as cashews, almonds, hazelnuts, and walnuts
- 1 tbsp light olive oil, plus extra for greasing
- 2 tbsp honey
- 3½ tbsp maple syrup
- ¼ cup dried blueberries
- ¼ cup dried cranberries
- ¼ cup dried cherries
- 2 tbsp dried coconut
- Greek yogurt or milk, to serve
How to Make It
- Place the oats, seeds, and nuts in a large deep-sided frying pan. Heat over medium heat, stirring frequently, for 3–5 minutes or until lightly browned. Transfer to a baking sheet and set aside.
- Heat the oil, honey, and syrup in the frying pan until melted and well combined. Return the toasted oats, nuts, and seeds to the pan and heat for another 5 minutes, stirring frequently, until warmed through and evenly coated.
- Mix together the berries, cherries, and coconut, add to the pan, and combine well.
- Pour the mixture onto the baking sheet, spread it out, and let cool completely. When cold, break the granola into small pieces and transfer to an airtight container. To serve, layer Greek yogurt and granola into four glass dishes. Alternatively, serve with milk.
