Putting a burger to a famous steak, a tasty combination.
Ingredients
- 1½ lb ground beef (sirloin, preferably)
- 1 tbsp oil (olive or canola)
- 1 large onion
- 1 sweet red pepper (insides removed, sliced)
- ½ lb button mushrooms (sliced)
- 12 thin slices of cheese
- pepperoncini (for garnish)
- ¾ lb Italian bread (cut into 6 segments, cut open each segment like a hamburger bun)
How to Make It
- Heat coals or gas grill to medium-hot. For gas grill, after you preheat on high, reduce to medium-hot. Grease the rack you will be using.
- Shape the meat into six patties, then place in the refrigerator to get firm.
- Over medium-high heat, fry onions in 1 tbsp. of oil for roughly 5 minutes. Add pepper and mushrooms and cook for a further 5 minutes or until tender.
- If you are using a gas grill, cover and grill for roughly 6 minutes or until the internal temperature is 160°F. Turn off the heat and immediately place 2 slices of cheese on the top of each patty. Allow the cheese to melt.
- Serve each burger on a piece of Italian bread with the topping spooned over it. For added flavor and a great taste, serve with pepperoncini.
