Ingredients
- 1½ teaspoons active dry yeast
- 2 tablespoons sugar, divided
- ¼ cup lukewarm water
- ¾ cup lukewarm milk
- Pinch of sea salt
- 2 tablespoons melted butter, divided
- 2½ cups all-purpose flour, sifted
- Optional: vanilla sauce or sweetened condensed milk for topping
How to Make It
- Dissolve the yeast and 1 tablespoon sugar in warm water. Let the mixture stand until bubbly. In another bowl, add 1 tablespoon sugar, lukewarm milk, salt, and melted butter. Mix until sugar has been dissolved.
- Add the yeast mixture to the milk mixture and then add the flour and knead until dough is smooth and elastic (approximately 7–8 minutes). Add flour as necessary, until the dough can be formed into a soft ball.
- Lightly spray a bowl with nonstick spray and place the dough in it. Allow the dough to double in size. This will take about 1 hour.
- Once done, punch dough. Remove from bowl and knead for 2 minutes on a lightly floured surface. Divide dough into 12 equal pieces and roll them into balls. Place them in an Instant Pot steamer basket. Side by side is fine; they will all fit. Allow dough balls to rise for about 10–15 minutes.
- Place 1½ cups of warm water into your pot and place trivet into bottom. Place steamer basket on trivet. Close lid and lock vent. Cook on High Manual Pressure for 40 minutes and NPR. Serve warm or chilled with sauce of your choice.
