Ingredients
- ¼ cup all-purpose flour
- 1¼ cups half-and-half
- 4 large eggs
- 3 tablespoons light brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter or nonstick cooking spray
- 12 thick slices bread, such as Texas toast or French bread
- Fresh berries, for serving
- Maple syrup or Candy Syrup, for serving
How to Make It
- Preheat a griddle to 350°F or heat a skillet over medium-high heat.
- Put the flour in a medium bowl. Slowly whisk in the half-and-half, then whisk in the eggs one at a time. Stir in the brown sugar, vanilla, and cinnamon and whisk until the batter is smooth.
- Melt the butter on the griddle or in the skillet. Dip the bread into the egg mixture, flip the bread to make sure it is evenly coated, and then place the bread on the griddle. Cook 4 at a time, or as many as will fit comfortably. Cook for 2 minutes on each side, or until lightly golden brown. Repeat with the remaining bread. Whisk the egg mixture as needed if the cinnamon starts to rise to the top.
- Serve immediately, or place the French toast on a baking sheet in the oven at 175°F to keep warm. Top with fresh berries and maple syrup or candy syrup.
