- ½ teaspoon table salt or fine sea salt
- ½ cup 2% milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 6 large eggs
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter

How to Make It
-
Make the Pancakes
- Preheat the oven to 400°F.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, and salt. Add the milk and vanilla and stir to combine.
- Beat in the eggs one by one with a hand mixer. Take the time to beat each egg until creamy yellow, at least 10 seconds each.
- Place the butter in a 9 × 13-inch casserole dish and put the dish in the oven for 2 to 3 minutes, or until the butter has melted. Remove the dish and pour the egg mixture immediately on top of the hot butter. Bake for 18 to 20 minutes, or until the edges are light brown and fluffy. Make the caramelized Apples
- While the pancakes are cooking, in a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. In a medium bowl, combine the brown sugar, granulated sugar, and cinnamon. Stir in the apple slices, then add the apples to the skillet with the melted butter. Reduce the heat to low and cook for about 5 minutes, or until the apples are fork-tender and the sugar has caramelized.
- Cut the German pancake into 6 large squares and serve immediately, as it tends to deflate over time. Top with the caramelized apples.
