Ingredients
- 3 cups dried beans (great northern, navy, black, or pinto, or a combination of any of them)
- 12 cups water
- 4 cups fresh tomatoes, chopped, or 28-oz. can low-sodium stewed or diced tomatoes, drained
- ½ cup chopped onion
- 1 tsp salt
- 4 cups water
- 2 cups ham
How to Make It
- Place beans and 12 cups water in a large stockpot. Cover and bring to a boil.
- Uncover and boil for 2 minutes.
- Cover, remove from heat, and set aside for 1 hour. Drain beans.
- Place beans in the slow cooker. Add tomatoes, onion, salt, and 4 cups water.
- Cover and cook on High 6–8 hours, or until beans are tender.
- After beans are tender, stir in ham and cook an additional 30 minutes on Low.
