This sounds like the easiest thing in the world but only if you know which fruits to use. Some, such as melons and pears, freeze too hard and aren’t pleasant to bite into while others turn to mush too quickly when they come out of the freezer. Others lose sweetness so don’t taste so good. The following all freeze well and are at their best when frozen for up to two hours.
Pears and cranberries together make such a wintery, delicious, and unexpected combination. Bosc pears work especially well, since they hold their shape a bit better when baking than the other pear varieties but, truly, any pear would suffice. According to our bakery manager, Amelia, not only does this make a lovely Christmas dessert, it also makes for a very tummy-warming breakfast on Christmas morning (or any winter morning that needs an extra pick-me-up, for that matter).
This unusual recipe for a dark rye loaf contains polenta, potatoes and cocoa! The result is a rich, dark and flavour some bread.

Packing salads in jars is a great way to make portable salads for lunches at work, or anywhere else you want to take them. And they’re easily customizable: in addition to what’s listed here, I sometimes throw in diced bell peppers or zucchini.
