A great way to get children to eat fish, these sweet and sticky fish bites both look and taste delicious.
Ingredients
- ¼ cup soy sauce
- ¼ cup rice wine or dry sherry
- 2 tbsp rice vinegar or white wine vinegar
- 1 tbsp light brown sugar
- 1 tbsp honey
- 2 tsp sesame oil
- 1 lb 2 oz (500 g) firm white fleshed fish fillets, cut into ¾ in (2 cm) cubes
- 2 tbsp sesame seeds
For a Gluten-free Option
- use gluten-free tamari to replace soy sauce
How to Make It
- Combine the soy sauce, rice wine, vinegar, sugar, honey, and oil in a small, heavy-bottomed saucepan and bring it to a boil.
- Reduce the heat to a simmer and cook, uncovered, for 5 minutes, until the sauce has reduced. Allow it to cool.
- Turn the fish in the cooled sauce to coat, cover, and marinate in the refrigerator for 1 hour.
- Preheat the broiler to its highest setting. Line a baking sheet or broiler pan with foil and spread out the marinated fish in a single layer. Sprinkle half the sesame seeds evenly over the fish.
- Broil the fish for 3–4 minutes, until it is beginning to turn crispy at the edges, then turn it over carefully, sprinkle with the remaining sesame seeds, and broil for another 3–4 minutes.
