Fresh out of college, you’re ready for a new job in the healthcare industry. What do you start applying for? While you will want to do something that relates to your degree, finding the right entry-level job can be challenging. If you aren’t sure what healthcare job would be right for you, consider some of the following.

Registered Nurse

Registered nurses work in the healthcare field to support doctors and other specialists. There are many specialties that a person can do when they work with a global healthcare job placement company to get a job as a registered nurse. They might work with those who suffer from addiction, in critical care facilities, to help with rehabilitation after injuries, or in a neonatal care facility. The average salary of a registered nurse is around $83,000, but income can be much higher depending on the person’s specialty.

Physical Therapist Assistant

While physical therapists are working with patients, their assistant is monitoring them. The assistant will monitor the patient before, during, and after the physical therapy and generate a report covering their observations for the physical therapist. They can also help treat patients or help the patients perform exercises following the physical therapist’s care plan. With the importance placed on physical therapy after an injury, the outlook for this job is expected to increase in the coming years.

Medical Scientist

Medical scientists work behind the scenes to do research and experiments. Often, they work with formulating new drugs that can help provide cures for diseases or find out how diseases work to see the best way to treat them. They may do research to find out what will work or do experiments to find out if they’re right. They may also handle clinical trials to test the medications they create and make sure they work properly to help treat a disease. The average salary of a medical scientist is around $100,000 per year, and the job is expected to continue growing over the next 10 years.

Licensed Practical Nurse

A licensed practical nurse provides medical care for patients under the supervision of RNs and physicians. They often monitor the health of patients, ensure patients are comfortable, provide basic care, and listen to the patients’ concerns. They may report the patient’s status and any concerns to the supervising RN or physician and will help to keep records of the patient’s health. The demand is expected to increase for LPNs in the coming years, and right now they typically receive an average salary of around $52,000.

Sterile Processing Technician

Sterilized tools are crucial for patient care during surgeries and other treatments. All of the equipment must be kept in a sterilized environment, and this is where a sterile processing technician comes into play. They oversee the proper techniques to decontaminate and sterilize surgical equipment, report issues to the surgeon, and find replacements if needed. They may also need to calibrate medical equipment or keep track of maintenance and repairs to ensure everything works as expected. They typically make around $42,000 per year. Experts do believe this job will grow significantly over the next few years.

Phlebotomy Technician

A phlebotomy technician is the person who draws blood as needed. They may work in a wide range of different healthcare facilities, and they can help collect other body samples as needed. They will help talk to patients about what to expect and label the blood collected before it is entered into a database and stored properly. They can help those who may be anxious about having blood drawn or work with people who have adverse reactions during a blood draw to make sure they are comfortable and safe. They typically make around $38,000 per year and the job prospects for this area are expected to increase in the next decade.

Medical Office Administrator

Offices need someone who knows the ins and outs of the field and who is able to help patients with anything they might need before and after they receive medical care. A medical office administrator will need to know the medical terminology and all procedures followed by the facility. They may work in scheduling appointments, billing patients, recording medical charts, and contacting patients as needed. The job outlook for this is good over the next few years, and the average salary for a medical office administrator is around $40,000 per year.

Pharmacy Technician

Working in a pharmacy allows technicians to ensure patients receive the medicine they need to treat a variety of medical issues and disorders. The pharmacy technician will assist the pharmacist by dispensing the prescription medications to customers. A pharmacy technician may work in a hospital or in a retail pharmacy, depending on their preferences. Since healthcare is expected to grow significantly in the coming years, medication needs will, too, so the job opportunities for a pharmacy technician can increase. The average salary for this job is around $38,000 per year.

Dental Assistant

Those who are interested in working in a dental setting may consider the job of a dental assistant. They do a lot to help dental hygienists and dentists, including making sure patients are comfortable, preparing them for treatments, and sterilizing dental equipment and tools. They may help the dentist during a procedure, teach patients how to brush and floss properly, and help schedule appointments or keep track of dental treatments.
