The American Cancer Society for many years has promoted the educational concept that each person should be aware of the early signs of cancers and to take immediate action should one or more appear. These warning signs are as follows: 1. change in bowel or bladder habits; 2. a sore that does not heal; 3. unusual bleeding or discharge from any body opening; 4. thickening or lump in the breast or elsewhere on the body; 5. indigestion or difficulty in swallowing; 6. obvious change in a wart or mole—color, size, etc.; 7. nagging cough or hoarseness.
