Voxel

A volume element, i.e., an individually representable volume of tissue detected by a digital radiographical imaging device, represented on the final image by a picture element (a “pixel”).

The fundamental unit within the reconstructed matrix is referred to as the volume element. It represents a distinct portion of space that contributes to the overall structure. The computed attenuation coefficients, in turn, indicate the extent of absorption occurring within this volume. The level of absorption is influenced by both the thickness of the individual slices and the dimensions of the matrix. Interestingly, the term “pixel” can be employed interchangeably to denote both the volume element and the matrix size, highlighting their interconnected nature.
