Visceral fat

Intra-abdominal fat, is located inside the peritoneal cavity, packed in between internal organs and torso.


Fat that accumulates around internal organs, especially organs within the peritoneum, pleura, or pericardium. Visceral fat is more commonly found in men than in women. It contributes to insulin resistance and other aspects of the metabolic syndrome.


A certain measure of adipose tissue that functions as a protective layer for the different bodily organs housed within the thoracic and abdominal cavities.
