A developmental alteration that takes place as a person grows, causing the joint surfaces of a spinal vertebra to appear rough, irregular, and the bone to seem less dense. This condition typically affects young individuals who experience persistent backaches, often in the upper part of the spine. It is also referred to as Scheuermann’s disease.
