Uterine muscle relaxants

Medications employed to defer the untimely delivery of a fetus. Beta2-adrenoceptor stimulants like salbutamol can be administered in pregnancies at risk between the 24th and 33rd weeks of gestation. These medications induce relaxation in uterine muscles, potentially stalling labor for a span of days or even weeks. This delay in premature labor, lasting up to 48 hours, offers a window to administer corticosteroid drugs to the mother. These drugs aid in facilitating the maturation of the fetus’s lungs.
