Tyrosinase

A copper containing enzyme found in animals and plants that catalyses the oxidation of phenols (such as tyrosine) and the production of melanin and other pigments from tyrosine by oxidation.

An oxidising enzyme, occurring in plant and animal tissues, that catalyses the aerobic oxidation of tyrosine into melanin and other pigments.

An enzyme that acts on tyrosine to produce melanin. It is used as a tumor marker for malignant melanoma, since almost all melanomas express the enzyme.

Within a pigment cell, there exists an enzymatic entity responsible for facilitating the conversion of tyrosine to DOPA as part of the melanin synthesis pathway.
