Trypanosomiasis

Human disease or an infection caused by a trypanosome.


A disease, spread by insect bites, where trypanosomes infest the blood. Symptoms are pains in the head, general lethargy and long periods of sleep.


Infection with a parasite of the Trypanosoma genus.


A rare illness caused by the bite of an infected tsetse fly. There are two types of trypanosomiasis, named after the regions where they occur: West African trypanosomiasis, also called Gambian sleeping sickness, is caused by the parasite Trypanosoma brucei gambiense and occurs in western and central Africa; East African trypanosomiasis is caused by the parasite Trypanosoma brucei rhodesiense and occurs in parts of eastern and central Africa.


Any disease caused by the presence of parasitic protozoans of the genus Trypanosoma. The two most important diseases are Chagas disease (South American trypanosomiasis) and sleeping sickness (African trypanosomiasis).


Any of the several diseases occurring in humans and domestic animals caused by a species of Trypanosoma.


Any illness resulting from infection with a trypanosoma.
