Process by which genetic material (DNA) is transmitted from one bacterial cell to another via a bacterial virus (phage), thereby changing the genetic constitution of the second organism.
The transfer of genes from one cell to another by means of a viral (in the case of bacteria, a bacteriophage) vector or a vector which is similar to a virus particle (pseudovirion).
Transference, from one bacterial cell to a second cell of like species but differing strain, of a particle of DNA, the carrying vehicle being bacteriophage which has infected the cells in turn. The transduced characteristic will thenceforward be inherited by daughter cells of the newly infected bacterium.
The transfer of DNA from one bacterium to another by means of a bacteriophage (phage). Some bacterial DNA is incorporated into the phage. When the host bacterium is destroyed the phage infects another bacterium and introduces the DNA from its previous host, which may become incorporated into the new host’s DNA.
A phenomenon causing genetic recombination in bacteria in which DNA is carried from one bacterium to another by a bacteriophage.
