Sometimes called skotography, a form of psychic photography where the practitioners claim the ability to project, by paranormal means, the image of their thoughts onto a film inside a camera.
The first recorded thoughtographs, then called psychographs, were made by the psychic and spiritualist Duguid in 1878. Between 1920 and 1940, Madge Donohue produced thousands of thoughtographs by putting a plate under her pillow at night and developing it the next morning to reveal her dreams of ancient Egyptian and Greek historical images. Another medium, Margaret E. W. Fleming, between 1956 and 1976, claimed to make pictures by holding a sheet of photographic paper to her forehead, exposing it briefly to a lightbulb, and then developing it in the normal way. In Japan, it was claimed that certain Buddhist monks could create mental images on him and even erase other images on conventionally exposed him. A Japanese medium, Masuaki Kiyota, was said to be able to create exposures in sealed Polaroid cameras.
