Any of a group of drugs that block the aggregation of platelets. Drugs in this class are used to prevent arterial clotting and are effective in the prevention of strokes, heart attacks, stent thromboses, and peripheral arterial disease. Examples include ticlopidine and clopidogrel. Their most common side effect is bleeding.
