A protein associated with microtubules that is found in glial cells of the brains of people affected by neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer’s disease, Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, frontotemporal dementia, and some forms of Parkinson’s disease. In these and related illnesses, high levels of tau can be found in the cerebrospinal fluid.
