Susceptible

A person with no specific resistance to a disease or condition.

Likely to catch a disease.

Having little resistance to a disease or foreign protein.

Organisms may be incapable of opposing the operation or counteracting the effects of an injurious or pathogenic factor, otherwise referred to as the inability of a host to defend against or overcome the effects of an invasive pathogenic organism or virus. In the definition presented by the BMS, susceptible acts as the antithesis of immune; both possess exact meanings and differ from resistant. The definition of APS complements that of resistance, and both terms correspond to the same aspect of the host-parasite interaction, whereby low resistance associates with high susceptibility and high resistance with low susceptibility. It appears that both terms need not be preserved, and it is recommended that susceptible should be solely used to represent non-immune, in comparison to tolerant. The expression “highly susceptible” is often employed to describe severe symptoms; this outcome may result from low resistance, but it does not necessarily do so, and the term sensitive would be more appropriate.

Being susceptible to a certain influence or prone to contracting a disease.
