A writ directing delivery of documents.
“Under penalty” plus “bring with you.” An order to appear in court (or at a deposition), and to bring specific documents within the possession or control of the person being subpoenaed. The hospital does not ordinarily permit medical records out of its custody; thus a medical record administrator (MRA) (or other responsible person) sometimes receives a subpoena duces tecum commanding him to appear in court, and to bring specific medical records for which he is the custodian.
A process used in litigation that compels the party having control of documents, items, and materials relevant to issues in a lawsuit to produce them at a designated time and place.
