Stippling

The pitted orange‐peel appearance of the attached gingiva, which is considered a structural characteristic of a healthy gingiva.


The existence of a number of small pin-point areas in which the corneal epithelium has become denuded, resulting in these areas being stained if fluorescein is instilled into the eye.


A spotted or speckled appearance, such as is seen in the retina in certain eye diseases or in abnormal red blood cells stained with basic dyes.


A spotted condition (e.g., in the retina in some diseases of the eye, or in basophilic red blood cells).
