Spatulate

Shaped like a small spatula: oblong, with an extended basal part.


A botanical term meaning “spreading” or “trowel-shaped”.

A surgical instrument with a flat, blunt, spoon like end. Spatulate also refers to a procedure in which the opening of a tubular structure of the body, such as a blood vessel, is widened before it is joined to another such structure to make the joined area more secure and less likely to narrow.


To mix something by use of a spatula. In dentistry, to mix or manipulate certain dental materials with a spatula to achieve a uniform, homogeneous mass.
