Sjogren’s syndrome

A chronic autoimmune disease in which the lacrimal and salivary glands become infiltrated with lymphocytes and plasma cells, and the mouth and eyes become dry.

Autoimmune disease marked by dry skin, dry nasal membranes, and multiple areas of arthritis.

Sjögren’s syndrome is an autoimmune disorder characterized by the immune system’s attack on the glands responsible for producing saliva and tears. In this condition, the body’s immune system mistakenly recognizes the glands as foreign and launches an immune response against them. As a result, the glands become damaged and do not function properly, leading to decreased saliva production and dryness of the eyes. Sjögren’s syndrome can cause symptoms such as dry mouth, dry eyes, difficulty swallowing, and in some cases, systemic manifestations affecting other parts of the body.
