Silver bromides

The emulsion used in X-ray film comprises a combination of silver bromides and gelatin. To prepare this emulsion, gelatin is dissolved in hot water under conditions of complete darkness, and then silver nitrate and potassium bromide are added to create silver bromide. When radiation interacts with the emulsion, the silver ions (Ag+) and bromide ions (Br-) combine to form a hidden image known as a latent image.
