Shellfish

Shellfish is a collective term encompassing all edible crustaceans, which are fish with shells. Among the well-known varieties are clams, crabs, crayfish, limpets, lobsters, mussels, oysters, prawns, Dublin Bay prawns, scallops, shrimp, conch, and periwinkles. When purchasing shellfish, it is essential to select them during their respective seasons and ensure they are fresh. If they need to be stored before consumption, it is preferable to buy them alive and prepare them shortly before eating. Shellfish offer valuable nutritional benefits, primarily through their protein content. Additionally, they provide beneficial amounts of B vitamins and mineral salts.
