Scan

In medicine, one of various techniques to give a picture of the body’s internal organs. Some kinds of scans, such as a CT scan, ultrasound, and MRI, are not invasive, requiring no injections or other intrusions to prepare the body for the test. Many other scans are invasive, requiring the injection of foreign materials into the body to show up on the screen, such as dyed fluid in an angiogram or slightly radioactive material in nuclear scans.


An image obtained from a system that compiles information in a sequence pattern, such as computed tomography, ultrasound, or magnetic resonance imaging.


Pictures of structures inside the body. Scans are used often in diagnosing, staging and monitoring disease.


The term “misnomer” is used to refer to a situation where “A mode” or scanning with A mode display is inaccurately labeled or referred to.
