Bites originating from sandflies, prevalent in numerous warm regions, can lead to disease transmission in humans. Within tropical and subtropical zones, these insects spread leishmaniasis. In specific regions of Asia and the Mediterranean, they transmit sandfly fever, a flu-like ailment. In the western Andes, they can transmit bartonellosis, where distinct variants provoke either joint pain and fever or a rash. To reduce the risk of bites, wearing clothing with long sleeves and pants that fit snugly at the wrists and ankles, as well as applying insect repellent, particularly after dusk (when the flies are most active), can be effective measures.
