A cold dish served with dressing.
The term “salad,” which finds its roots in Latin as “sal,” meaning salt, holds significance across numerous European languages. Originally, a salad denoted something immersed or dressed in salt. While the most commonly encountered salad consists of uncooked leafy greens, the realm of possibilities expands infinitely, encompassing an array of vegetables and fruits, whether prepared cooked or raw, to compose delectable dishes. Many of these culinary creations, when combined with a portion of protein such as fish, cheese, eggs, or cold meats, form complete and satisfying meals in their own right. Salads may also incorporate cooked rice or pasta, as well as the delightful additions of nuts, dried fruit, and fragrant herbs, further enhancing their flavors and textures.
