A technique for the removal of a ring from an injured or swollen finger. One method is described here: One end of a length of string is passed under the ring. The ring is pushed as far from the swollen area toward the hand as possible; the string is wrapped on the side of the swollen area around the finger for about a dozen turns. The end of the string that extends under the ring is grasped. While being held firmly, the string is unwound from the hand side of the ring. This moves the ring toward the free end of the finger. This procedure should be continued until the ring is free. If this technique fails, the ring may have to be cut from the finger.
