Surgical reconstruction or alteration of the nose to repair or modify its shape.

A surgical procedure aimed at modifying the nose’s structure can either enhance its aesthetic appearance or correct a deformity resulting from injury or illness.

Using either local or general anesthesia, cuts are made inside the nose to minimize visible scarring. If the airways are obstructed, adjustments may be made to the septum, which is the vertical barrier of cartilage and bone that separates the nostrils. The cartilage and bone are subsequently reshaped, and the nose is held in place with a splint for approximately ten days.

Rhinoplasty often leads to significant bruising and swelling, and the final results may not become fully apparent for several weeks or even months.
