Retinal haemorrhage

The entry of blood into the retina, which is the light-sensitive inner layer situated at the rear of the eye, can result from one or more blood vessels. This phenomenon can be attributed to conditions like diabetes mellitus, hypertension (elevated blood pressure), or retinal vein occlusion (a blockage in a vein responsible for draining blood from the retina).

When the macula, which houses central vision, is affected, vision experiences significant impairment. Hemorrhages at the periphery might only become noticeable during an eye examination using an ophthalmoscope.
