Small insects that infest the genital-rectal region of the body.
Parasitic insects found in the human genital areas; infestation with pubic lice is one of the sexually transmitted diseases.
Pubic lice (crabs) are parasites which may be spread sexually or non-sexually. They are usually found in pubic hairs and cause itching.
Tiny insects that infest the hair around the genitals; crab lice.
Tiny, wingless insects known as Pthirus pubis, commonly referred to as crab lice or crabs, inhabit the pubic hair and subsist on blood. These lice have a flattened body, measuring up to 2 mm in width. Female lice lay eggs, or nits, on the hair, which hatch approximately eight days later. In men, these lice might also be discovered in hair around the anal area, legs, torso, and face. The bites from these lice can occasionally induce itching.
The lice are commonly transmitted through sexual contact between individuals. Children can acquire infestations through contact with their parents, and these lice may even take up residence on the eyelids. Using an insecticide lotion can effectively eliminate both the lice and their eggs. Furthermore, anyone who has been in contact with the infested person should undergo treatment, and garments and bedding should be laundered in water hotter than 60°C before being used again.
