The space between the pterygoid process and the upper jaw.
A space bounded posteriorly by the root of the pterygoid process, medially by the orbital and sphenoidal processes of the palatine bone, and anteriorly by the superomedial aspect of the posterior surface of the maxilla. Also called sphenomaxillary fossa.
