The analysis of populations on the basis of certain characteristics of individuals, specifically their attitudes, values, and lifestyles. The psychographic attributes of individuals are obtained by surveys or forms of psychometric testing. Such analyses are extensions of demographics. The attributes involved are not what are usually considered demographic; the analyses combine the psychographic data with demographic data. For example, it may be essential for some purposes to know the social consciousness (a psychographic item) of a population as it relates to various age and sex groups (demographic items).
