Stress occurring during the last 7-10 days of the menstrual cycle that is believed due to a change in the processing of sodium in the central nervous system and often accompanied by headache, backache, depression, and irritability.
A condition of nervousness, irritability, emotional disturbance, headache, and/or depression affecting some women for up to about ten days before menstruation. The condition is associated with the accumulation of salt and water in the tissues. It usually disappears soon after menstruation begins.
Symptoms such as headaches, nausea, and episodes of fainting often appear a few days before menstruation starts. During this period, a woman might also feel depressed and emotional. The exact cause remains unclear. Various factors, ranging from fluid accumulation in the body to hormonal imbalances and psychological reasons, have been suggested as potential causes. Each individual’s experience is unique, and treatment may involve medication, dietary adjustments, or psychological counseling.
