Postherpetic neuralgia

The sensation of pain along certain nerve pathways following a herpesvirus infection.


Neuralgia following an attack of herpes zoster (shingles). It is caused by irritation of the nerve roots of the spinal cord. Treatments include gabapentin.


A sensation of burning pain caused by nerve irritation, typically manifesting at the location where a prior episode of herpes zoster (shingles) occurred.


Neuralgia that develops after an episode of herpes zoster. It continues to afflict the affected area long after the shingles blisters have resolved.
