Polychlorinated biphenyls

Cooling fluids used in electrical capacitors and heat exchange units and are not biodegradable may be associated with a variety of occupational illnesses.

A plasticizer and insulator material used in the electronics industry found to be a very long-lived toxic environmental contaminant.

Any of a group of complex chemicals classed as chlorinated aromatic hydrocarbons. They were widely used in industry as a component of transformers and capacitors; in paints and hydraulic systems; and in carbonless NCR paper. Because of their extremely low rate of biodegradation, accumulation in animal tissues (particularly in adipose tissue), and their potential for chronic or delayed toxic effects, the manufacture of PCBs was discontinued in the U.S. in 1977.
