Phenolsulfonphthalein

A dye used in kidney function tests. Urine levels are measured at regular intervals after injection of 6 mg, to test the excretory capacity of the kidney tubules. Rate of excretion is decreased in kidney and some urinary tract diseases, increased in some liver diseases.

A bright red organic chemical C19H1405S used diagnostically in studies of kidney function, bladder emptying, and, after intra-amniotic injection, in invasive tests for premature rupture of membranes.
