One of the major groups of sexual disorders; in dsm-ivtr, this group includes exhibitionism, fetishism, frotteurism, pedophilia, sexual masochism, sexual sadism, transvestic fetishism, voyeurism, and paraphilia not otherwise specified (including klismaphilia and necrophilia). The paraphilias (also called perversions or sexual deviations) are recurrent, intense sexual urges and sexually arousing fantasies that involve nonhuman objects, children or other nonconsenting persons, or the suffering or humiliation of oneself or the sexual partner.
A condition in which persistent and repetitive sexually arousing fantasies of an unusual nature are associated with either preference for or use of a nonhuman object for sexual arousal, repetitive sexual activity with human beings involving real or simulated suffering or humiliation, or repetitive sexual activity with nonconsenting partners.
Abnormal sexual activity. Kinds of paraphilia include exhibitionism, fetishism, pedophilia, voyeurism, and zoophilism.
A mental illness characterized by frequent, intense, sexual urges or fantasies involving nonhuman objects, humiliation of oneself or one’s partner, or children or nonconsenting adults. Some individuals must engage in the paraphiliac fantasy or activity to become sexually aroused, while for others the fantasies or activities occur only from time to time. Paraphilia includes fetishism (undergarments, shoes, and other objects), exhibitionism (exposing the genitals to others without their consent), pedophilia, masochism (receiving pain during sex), and sadism (inflicting pain on the partner).
A psychosexual disorder in which unusual or bizarre imagery or acts are necessary for realization of sexual excitement. Included in this disorder are bestiality, fetishism, transvestism, zoophilia, pedophilia, exhibitionism, voyeurism, sexual masochism, and sexual sadism.
A form of sexual behavior wherein an individual experiences sexual arousal or excitement from activities that are considered unusual, extreme, or criminal in nature.
