A well-differentiated thyroid cancer, and the most common form of thyroid cancer in the U.S. Most thyroid cancers of this type grow slowly and respond well to treatment. They are usually identified as a thyroid nodule and are best diagnosed with fine needle aspiration biopsy. Treatment includes surgical removal of the thyroid gland, followed by radioactive iodine treatment to destroy any residual tissue or metastasis. Survival ten years after diagnosis and treatment exceeds 90%.
