Pain in the testicle

Aches or pains that begin in the testicles, the glands contained within the scrotum, which is the skin-covered pouch between the legs in a man. Sometimes, the discomfort radiates into the lower abdomen. Usually such aches and pains are not cause for alarm. However, severe pain from one side that comes on suddenly, particularly if accompanied by nausea or vomiting, requires immediate medical attention. It can arise from torsion of the testicle, a condition in which the normal blood supply to the testicle is cut off Untreated torsion can cause the testicle to die and may require it to be removed. Other causes of pain in the testicle are in¬ jury, dilated veins in the scrotum, hernia, or a stone in the lower end of the tube connecting the kidney to the bladder. Cancer is rarely a cause of pain in the testicle.
