Turned implant surface
The surface texture of an implant as generated by milling machines used in manufacturing of the final implant shape. The surface is not altered subsequent to the machining process. Called also machined implant surface. Compare: Turned surface.

Turgid
Swollen and distended or in a state of congestion. Swollen throughout. Swollen with blood. Swollen, hard, or full, usually as the result of fluid accumulation. Inflated, congested, expanded.

Tunnel preparation
A surgical procedure implemented on a multirooted tooth (usually mandibular molar) that results in a totally opened furcation. The procedure is performed to allow easier and complete access to the area between the roots for the purpose of oral hygiene and improved tissue health.

Tunnel dissection
A surgical procedure in which the periosteum is dissected from bone through a small opening made by an incision; access to the desired bone site is through a tunnel‐like opening under the soft tissue.

Tuberosity reduction

Try‐in screw
Threaded component matching the abutment screw, used by the restorative dentist in clinical procedures. Its use avoids damaging the prosthetic screw which is reserved for the clinical insertion of the prosthesis.

Unglazed restoration
Try‐in of a ceramic or metal‐ceramic restoration to evaluate contour, color, occlusion, and proximal contact tightness. The try‐in is completed prior to the application of the final ceramic glaze to minimize the need for final adjustments and to create as optimal a restoration as possible.
