  • Verification index

    Assembled recording of the positional relationship of implants made on a cast or in the mouth for the interchangeable validation of fit. If the fit is incorrect, the index is sectioned and reassembled.  

  • Verification cast

    New cast made from the reassembled index of implants following the validation of fit.  

  • Vent

    An opening in the implant body that allows for tissue ingrowth for increased retention, stability, and antirotation. Slit in side of a corolla-tube that is not continued to the apex (e.g. in Loranthaceae). An opening, particularly the anus.  

  • Veneer

    Coating of predetermined thickness, usually resin or ceramic, attached to a crown restoration or pontic by bonding, cementation, or mechanical retention. In dentistry, a man made material, such as porcelain, that can be bonded to the surface of a tooth. It is used for cosmetic reasons.  

  • Velum

    A membranous structure that partly obscures an opening or covers another structure. (In Isoetes) the membrane covering the sporangium. A veil-like covering. The medullary velum is either of two thin layers of tissue that form part of the roof of the fourth ventricle of the brain. Any structure resembling a veil.  

  • Veillonella spp

    Gram‐negative, nonmotile, anaerobic cocci found in supra‐ and subgingival plaque.

  • Vector

    Quantity described both in magnitude and in direction. A force vector is the application of force of a given magnitude in a given direction.
