  • Chain of infection

    A series of infections that are directly or indirectly connected to a particular source.  

  • C-fiber

    A type of nerve fiber that transmits slowly and gives rise to the sensation of dull, diffuse, or burning pain, A-delta fiber. Very small-diameter nerve fiber that carries information regarding pain and temperature.  

  • Cestode

    A parasitic worm. A type of tapeworm.  

  • Cesspool

    A reservoir for refuse and water with walls sufficiently porous to allow seepage into the surrounding ground.  

  • Cessation

    The process of stopping, as in of smoking.

    Mucus in the mouth of the cervix that prevents bacteria or other foreign substances from entering the uterus and infecting the fetus.
