    In botany, a small, specialized parenchyma cell associated with the sieve-tube elements of flowering plants.  

  • Community school

    A school that is intimately connected with the life of the community and tries to provide for the educational needs of all in the geographic locality.  

  • Community psychology

    An approach to therapy which emphasizes prevention and the seeking out of potential difficulties rather than waiting for troubled persons to initiate consultation. Professional activities are usually centered in the person’s natural surroundings rather than in a professional office, prevention.  

  • Community producing deviance

    Behaviors that contribute to a community with deviant behaviors.  

  • Community organization

    By this process, a community identifies its needs, develops the abilities and finds the resources to meet these needs, and develops cooperative and collaborative attitudes and practices in the community.  

  • Community mental health

    The delivery of services to needy, underserved groups through centers that offer outpatient therapy, short-term inpatient care, day hospitalization, 24-h emergency services, and consultation and education to other community agencies.  

  • Community involvement liaison (CIL)

    A position created within the Division of Health Assessment and Consultation. The CIL serves as the agency point person for citizens to directly share their concerns for response and inclusion in the health assessment.  

  • Community health services public health services

    The seven major program emphases are as follows: (a) environmental controls; (b) prevention of disease, disability, and premature death; (c) provision of medical and dental care; (d) collection and analysis of vital statistics and records; (e) provision for public education; (f) health planning and program evaluation; and (g) conducting research into health matters.  

  • Community health promotion

    A combination of educational, social, and environmental supports for behavior conducive to health.  

  • Community health program

    Includes all functions directed toward improving the health of individuals within the community and the health of the community as a whole. Its components are fundamentally the same as those for the school health program, namely, health education, medical and health services, and a healthful environment in which to live.
